LZ is real excited about her new Toshiba
TV set. I picked it up for her
today at Costco and delivered it to her
house.
The next step is to get her set up with
either cable or satellite. I'm
checking to see what is the best service
to get for her that we can afford to
provide on a permanent basis. (It
looks like I will be ordering cable
services.)

Today Lucas went to Tupelo and picked up
2 new mattresses and box springs for LZ.
One is a full size and the other is a
twin size. She was very excited
and happy to have these! Finally,
she asked if we could get her one more
twin bed so she could accommodate more
family visitors and also a TV set for
her living room. Lucas was able to
get a very good deal on these two bed
sets by going to Tupelo, under $400 for
both. We still have about 600 or
700 dollars left in the bank that we
raised for her so that should cover the
other bed and the TV set.

Elzora’s metal security doors were
installed on Friday September 1st,
and she is extremely excited about
the security they provide and the
fact that she can open her front
door and see the world without the
fear of having her home invaded. I
have purchased a “peep hole” to
install in the front door so that
she can see who is out front without
having to open the door, and Lucas
Berryhill and I are looking into
installing a motion sensor light on
the back of the house to provide
some additional security in that
area.
Lucas and I are going to begin
focusing heavily on the furniture
and other misc. items that Elzora
had expressed interest in. Lucas
has already secured commitments with
friends that he has in the bedding
industry in Tupelo for the Full and
Twin sized mattress and box sets
that she wants. They will be new,
and we should get both sets for
under $400.00 total.
I have been on the
road this week, but I will likely
spend some time Sunday shopping for
furniture deals.
Elzora’s birthday is September 29th,
and Lucas and I thought that a great
gift would be to organize a “work
day” at her house to help with her
yard. She really needs some
landscaping and tree-trimming help,
and she said that she would love a
small garden in the back if
possible. I believe that we could
do a good bit without spending much
at all as long as we had the
“Brother Power” to pitch in.
Saturday September 23rd
is an “off day” for Tiger football,
so maybe we can look at that
Saturday for this opportunity? Let
me know what you think and how we
can best communicate this to the
Brothers (actives, alums,
associates).

Talked to David again today. The
doors should be installed by the end of
August. Lucas has found a good
deal on new furniture. So as soon
as we know what the final tab will be,
I'll send out an email.

David
called me today to report that he has
ordered 2 doors from Metal Vent Doors
and it will take about 2 weeks to get
them installed on her house.

I
talked to David Saliba today and he has
offered to CHAIR this project as far as
deciding what needs to be purchased and
how to get the most and best quality for
our money. (note: You may or may
not know this, but David was the Lambda
Chi who really made this house happen.
His brother, Chip Saliba works in the
Shelby County Planning Department.
So Chip was the man with the connections
we needed to get the house built.)
David will find out exactly what LZ
needs and how much it will cost us.
Thanks to everyone who has offered to
donate more money. Let me know
if you will be able to help us with the
extra (if you haven't already.)
So far the following brothers have
offered to give more money to cover
this:
John Thompson --- Van Adams --- Scott
Stephens --- Barry Williams --- Garry
Warren --- Roger Bonds --- and me.
Keep those offers coming!!

Thanks for the info. I will
start checking around her house
every day that I am at work. I will
also make sure that the guys that
ride that ward know that she is one
of my peeps and entitled to their
extra efforts. Security doors
should be our primary concern.
Around $400 each installed for a
basic one. Home Depot or
Lowe's. (note: Kelly is a
Memphis Police Officer.)

We
could try that hotel supply place on
Winchester right next to Armstrong.
They would probably have some pretty
good deals.

Skip
text-messaged me yesterday and this
is just fantastic. I know
she's glad to be in her own place
again. I will be happy to
contribute to LZ's fund.
Hopefully some of the alumni have
contacts so we can get her good
things at great prices. The
security door should almost be the
first thing. otherwise they could
steal her furniture. What
about the windows? Do they
have bars?
Follow-up:
You
can count on me for a contribution
to LZ's new house, soon to be a
home. Your pictures answered my
question about bars on the windows.
They seem to be there but security
doors front and back, preferably
ones that have a glass panel that
can be raised would be better so she
can get cool breezes when they're
available and that will help cut
down on her A/C bills. I do
have a question about the beds.
Why a twin? Isn't that small
for company? If she has the
space in the second bedroom, why not
a full size there too unless she
doesn't want it. We should
certainly try to give her what she
wants. Or is the twin for her?
Maybe I misread. This house is beautiful and thanks to everyone
who was involved in making this
happen. Hopefully we can
get everyone behind this effort so
LZ can live in the style she
deserves.

Count me in on a share of however
much money you need to do it right.
I also think see needs and deserves
new stuff. Thanks again my
friend.

Glenn, Thanks for this
update. I’ll kick in (contribution)
toward whatever needs to be done.

SCOTT STEPHENS 8/4/06 |
I
would
think that the metal doors should be the
first thing you buy. Otherwise you may
be trying to raise more money in the
future to replace those items that were
stolen from her. Once you get the house
secure, then you can go for the other
stuff.

I
have a security door that is in my
garage and we are not using. I will
measure it over the weekend but she can
have it. I do not know what will be
necessary to install it -- the door
jamb/frame or whatever else, but it will
probably be much less than buying an
entire new door and assembly.

Glen,
you may want to check with T. J. to see
if he has any barter power for some of
this. He might even have some of it in
his inventory he could part with for
very low cost.
Follow-up:
Looked at the pix this morning. The
house looks great. This is how it
should work....people taking care of
those dear to them. I'm going to check
with our media people to see if we can
get some very positive publicity about
this.

DON VALDEZ (ZT314) 8/4/06 |
Glenn, if the plan is to raise
additional funds for Elzora’s
furnishings, count me for
(contribution). Just let me know where
and to whom the check should go.

Big
G, count on me for (contibution) to LZ.
Just tell me where.
Also, you can often times buy new
couches and chairs at Garage / Estate
Sales for a heavily discounted price
compared to new. As far as
security, let's buy her a machine gun to
remove any unwanted guests. Let me know what I can do
to help.
~ JOHN THOMPSON (ZT572)

I
think the security doors are the #1
priority. If we get furniture and
someone breaks in and removes the
furniture then we are back to where
we are right now. Maybe we
could check at Rooms to Go because
they sell the furniture for the
entire room. If a brother works at
Rooms to Go, they can get a 20%
discount on the furniture.
Check with her to help rank the most
important to the least important.
These are my suggestions.
